Preparing for Your Appointment

Before the Appointment

  • Setting Up the Appointment:
    • Do ask for details about the document and the number of signatories.
    • Don’t accept appointments for documents requiring specific witness qualifications (e.g., lawyer) unless you possess them.
    • Be aware of red flags: Vague details about the document or urgency to schedule could indicate potential issues.
    • Plan your commute: Ensure you arrive on time – punctuality is essential.

Acceptable vs. Unacceptable Personal Information:

  • Acceptable: Names, addresses, dates of birth (for ID verification).
  • Unacceptable: Discussing personal opinions, beliefs, or experiences not relevant to the witnessing process.
  • Preparing for the Appointment:
    • Do review relevant laws regarding document witnessing in your area.
    • Don’t provide legal advice – your role is to verify the signing process.
    • Gather necessary materials: Bring a pen and a copy of valid government-issued ID (most common requirement for verification).
